Hinsdale Central Drama Parents’ Association is a volunteer, non-profit 501(c)3 parent organization supporting all Hinsdale Central High School drama department classes and extracurricular activities, with an emphasis on providing volunteer and financial support for extracurricular productions. We support the program by:
- Providing parent volunteers for the 4 annual plays and 1 annual musical (ticket sales, concessions)
- Working to increase community awareness of the program and promote ticket sales for productions
- Supporting financial needs of the program not covered in the school budget (membership and fundraising)
- Financing scholarships for students in need
- Coordinating with the student Drama Club on fundraising efforts
Purpose
Drama Parents Association was funded to address funding issues for the Drama department and to provide support to the faculty in their efforts to educate our children and provide them with creative outlets. The challenges we hope to address are many:
- Drama receives virtually no funding from district to fund productions
- A small amount from student activity fees is provided to the program, but students who have paid the activity fee do not have to pay admission to see plays
- No costume or participation fee may be charged
- HC Boosters grants are available only for permanent items that stay with the program (i.e. new equipment) but not for any production costs, such as costume rental, equipment rental, script rights, etc. As an example, the licensing fee for this year’s musical is $7,000. All production costs must be covered by ticket sales.
- Anticipated annual costs for productions
Plays - $2,000 - $3,000 (x3-4)
